Amazing Air Fryer Mackerel Patties Recipe

What are Mackerel Patties? That is exactly what I asked myself when I was looking for new recipes to make.

I wanted something quick and easy that I can serve at any time or eat as a snack. If you are a seafood lover, then you got to try this recipe. 

Mackerel Patties in the Air Fryer are so fast and easy to make, you will find yourself making them quite often. It is a simple, cheap, and delicious meal you can make and share with others. 

This recipe is great if you are on a diet, eating less or want to make better health choices. It is a Cholesterol-lowering, Bone-Strengthening Omega-3 Powerhouse dish. 

Since this is a new dish for me that I am making, I had to do some research as to how I wanted to make this.

This dish is normally made using a skillet, but I’m an air fryer fanatic and wanted to make this using the air fryer. It was simple once I figured out my cooking temperature and time.

What You Will Need to Make Air-Fryer Mackerel Patties!

Ingredients

15 oz canned Mackerel in brine

2 eggs

¼ cup grated parmesan cheese

½ cup panko breadcrumbs 

2 tbsp mayonnaise

2 tbsp mustard

2 tbsp chopped chives or scallion

     

Let’s Jump Into This Goodness!

Instructions: 

Step 1- Prep the Mackerel- drain Mackerel, debone and transfer to a mixing bowl. Flake meat with fork. Some canned Mackerel will already be deboned such as the brand I am using, Wild Planet. 

Step 2- Add Ingredients- Add eggs, grated parmesan cheese, panko breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, mustard and chopped chives or scallion to the bowl and give it a good mix. 

Step 3- Make your Patties- using ¼ cup as a measure, shape into patties. If you do not have. ¼ measuring cup, you can make the patties with your hands, by making them the size of your palm, then tap it out into the palm of your hand.

Step 4- Place in Air Fryer- Pre-heat air fryer to 385 F Degrees, then spray the basket with oil then place patties into the air fryer, I was able to fit 6 into mine, so depending on the size of your air-fryer and how many patties you make, it will determine how many you can make at a time.  

Step 5- Air Fry the Patties- Set Temperature to 385 Degrees F for 12 minutes. No need to flip the patties. This will give it a beautiful, delicious crisp finish.  

Modifications and Substitutions

Feel free to use whatever brand of breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese you prefer for this recipe.

If you are following a diet, use healthier versions of mayonnaise and mustard that you can find at your local health food store. 

Storing and Cooking Frozen Patties 

One of the best things about cooking with an Air Fryer is that you can cook and always reheat most foods.

Instructions: 

  • Store leftover patties in a plastic bag or container for freezing or refrigeration 
  • Heat Patties for 3-4 minutes at 385 Degrees F (This applies to froze or refrigerated patties)

Mackerel is considered good fats and known to reduce blood pressure and decrease levels of cholesterol in your body.

It is also rich in coenzyme Q10, antioxidants, and omega-3 fats. Mackerel is an excellent source of vitamin B-12.
