5 Best Microwave Air Fryer Combos Of 2022

Counter space can be severely compromised if you have too many appliances out at one time, but if you’re like me, you think that you’re going to use all of the appliances all of the time, which we all know is a lie.

You’ll put an appliance on the counter thinking you’ll use it and then it just sits there collecting dust. How about investing in an appliance that doubles as another?

Microwave air fryer combos are the new fad. Not only do they save counter space, but you can save a couple of bucks as well. The air fryer can take the place of a deep fryer and if you need the microwave, it’s there as well.

I like to use the air fryer because according to a few studies, fried foods have been linked to several health problems like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

If you’re looking to eat a little healthier, save some money and counter space, and have your food served quickly, a good microwave air fryer combo is what you’re looking for. We tested over 50 microwave air fryer combos and here are some of our favorites.

Based on our research, the Panasonic HomeChef 4-in-1 is the best microwave air fryer combo.

A fan-favorite feature, and one of our personal favorites, is a large capacity, small 1.2 cubic foot space-saving design. It’s small enough to sit on the counter but large enough to cook a full chicken in about an hour. It’s perfect for any home including a small apartment or even a camper.

There aren’t a lot of confusing buttons, just press the one you need and set your time. There are three modes which include air-fry, microwave, convection, and broiler to choose from depending on what you’re cooking.

Panasonic HomeChef 4-in-1 Microwave Review

One unique characteristic we enjoy with the Panasonic HomeChef is that it has round turntables in it rather than square trays that the food sits on, such as in a regular air fryer. This allows the food to cook evenly every time with the Genius sensor cooking feature.

Unfortunately, this machine does not offer self-cleaning. Additionally, it’s a little noisy while it’s in use. However, if you’re like us, it won’t bother you unless you have your standing right next to it.

Panasonic HomeChef 4-in-1 Microwave

Pros

  • Fairly simple to use
  • No oil necessary for use
  • It has 4 units in one
  • Cooling Fan

Cons

  • No self-cleaning mode
  • A little loud

The GE 3-in-1 Countertop Microwave Oven with Air Fryer looks more like your basic microwave, but with the added functions.

It takes up just 1.0 cubic feet of counter space and offers 1,050 watts of cooking power. It’s a great little machine for apartments, small kitchens, and campers.

Features

  • AIR FRY MODE - Cook healthier, crispier versions of your favorite foods in less time, thanks to an air fryer built into your microwave
  • CONVECTION MODE - Achieve crisp, golden brown results in this microwave oven with convection, which includes a special rack that allows air to circulate around foods for even heat distribution
  • BROIL MODE - When you have a microwave with a broiler right inside, you can achieve the same effect you do with grill racks, radiating heat to sear or caramelize any food to perfection
  • PRESET CONTROLS - Use microwave preset controls like Fries and Nuggets to make operation quick and easy, while ensuring precisely cooked results
  • 1,050 WATTS & 1.0 CU. FT. - This 1,050-watt compact microwave offers the perfect balance of size and convenience, designed to fit perfectly in dorm rooms, offices and kitchens alike

One of our favorite features is the preset controls. They’re easy to press and clearly labeled. With just the push of a button, you can have perfectly cooked food every time. It takes a little over an hour to cook a chicken to 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

This great little machine has convection mode, air fry mode, and broil mode. You’ll even get a crisper pan with it.

GE 3-in-1 Countertop Microwave

As with the Panasonic, it has round trays and turntables for even cooking. When in operation, it’s much quieter than some of the other air fryer microwave combinations. We don’t want to hear our food cook from three rooms away, so this was a huge win for the GE.

We did have a few issues with this unit though. First, when air frying veggies, it does seem to take longer than usual and they were still soggy. Additionally, it doesn’t have a “bake” mode as some other combination machines do and the control panel doesn’t light up as most air fryers do.

Pros

  • Quiet operation
  • Compact design for small spaces
  • Easy-to-use buttons /Presets

Cons

  • Veggies come out soggy
  • No-bake feature
  • Buttons don’t light up

3. Galanz 3-in-1 Over The Range Microwave Air Fryer Combo – Best Space Saver

If you need all the extra space you can get in your kitchen, the Galanz 3-in-1 Over the Range Microwave Air Fryer Combo would be an optimal choice. We enjoyed this microwave unit because it was out of the way and conveniently located above our oven.

Galanz 3-in-1

This functional appliance has a microwave oven, convection oven, air fryer, and combi-speed cooking for even results.

As with the other machines, we cooked a whole chicken and it was done in about an hour and 10 minutes with 1000W of power. It may be just as fast as cooking one in a traditional oven, but it frees up that oven space for other dishes to be cooked.

This microwave air fryer combo takes up 1.6 cubic feet of space above your oven. It has round turntables for even cooking and can fit a small square baking pan for roasting.

The machine actually comes with round baking & roasting pans along with a frying basket. We were overall quite impressed with its functionality.

Galanz 3-in-1 Over the Range Microwave Air Fryer Combo review

The unfortunate thing about this microwave air fryer combo is that the door is so dark, that you can’t check on your food without opening the door. We found that our food was boiling over often and we didn’t notice until we opened the door. It always ended up being a huge mess.

Pros

  • Variety of add-ons
  • Quiet operation
  • 4-in-1 combo machine

Cons

  • Can’t see the food cooking

4. Nuwave Bravo XL Smart Convection Air Fryer – Best Features

NuWave has always been a fan favorite due to the constant innovative upgrades. This microwave air fryer combo machine is an extra-large 30-quart unit, so you’ll need some counter space.

We were able to cook a 10-lb chicken in it in about an hour at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. This was something that had us wanting to cook more, such as a 13-inch pizza.

Even though this machine isn’t exactly marketed as a microwave, it has the same capabilities of heating and reheating. One of our favorite features is the integrated digital thermometer.

When the desired temperature is set, the thermometer will constantly monitor the internal temperature of your food. This is a feature that’s near and dear to our hearts because we’ll always know when our food is perfectly heated on the inside.

Additionally, there are an astounding 112 presets and conveniences built into one large machine.

Nuwave Bravo XL Smart Convection Air Fryer

We were able to easily adjust the racks to four different positions and choose between 12 preset cooking functions. These functions include grilling, frying, baking, broiling, roasting, reheating, dehydrating, defrosting, toasting, plus more.

Even though we loved just about everything this air fryer microwave had to offer, we were surprised to see that the air fryer didn’t make food as crispy as we’d hoped. Additionally, the cooking times weren’t quite accurate. This is quite the inconvenience, but not an overall deal breaker.

Pros

  • 112 presets to choose from
  • Extra-large capacity
  • Good value

Cons

  • Inconsistent cooking times
  • Air-fried foods aren’t crispy

5. Toshiba 7-in-1 Countertop Microwave Oven – Best Splurge

Don’t be fooled by the small stature of this powerful 1000W microwave oven air fryer combo. On the outside, it’s only 1.0 cubic feet, but on the inside, it can hold 30 quarts of food.

Since this is a 7-in-1 machine, you can defrost, broil, air fry, microwave, bake, toast, and even make yogurt. We had no idea you could put a yogurt maker inside of an air fryer microwave machine. We’re willing to pay a little extra for a machine that can do out-of-the-ordinary tasks.

Toshiba 7-in-1 Countertop Microwave Oven

Since the microwave has 360-degree rapid heat circulating technology, we loved to use it for air frying since it cuts down on calories. There are two wire racks, a fry basket, and a bake try that we utilised for our foods.

We were even able to cook a 10lb chicken in just over an hour at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. For us, it saves time this way because we can use the air fryer to bake the chicken and our regular oven to bake a dessert.

External Dimension: 20.6”W x 16.3”D x 11.8”H with 12.4” turntable.

We were impressed by the fact that it came with a cookbook with 47 recipes. You could use the cookbook in unison with the 6 auto menus, 10 homefry menus, 5 sensor cook presets, and 6 defrost presets. It’s easy enough for a novice to use, which is something we really appreciate.

Overall, it was a nice machine. We found that the buttons were simple and there’s even an eco button to help conserve energy. The clock and timer are brightly lit as well. It does have some quirks though.

Something we found to be a little troubling was that if you put in the wrong command, you had no choice but to let it cook whatever was in the microwave. Even in you unplug the device, it will remember what it was doing and will continue to cook on that setting.

Pros

  • Cooks evenly and quickly
  • Compact but powerful
  • Holds 30 quarts

Cons

  • Clicking the wrong button causes quite the headache

How We Chose A Microwave Air Fryer Combo

When we were looking at all of the microwave air fryer combos that are on the market, there were a few specific qualities that we were interested in. These were our make-or-breakers.

When you purchase one of these machines, especially if it’s a particularly pricey one, you want to get the most out of it. Here’s how we chose the ones we have on our list.

Functionality

Functionality is the most important feature to us and should be to you as well. If one part of it doesn’t work the way it should, then the whole microwave air fryer combo is essentially worthless.

You have to make sure that everything is going to work the way you want it to. All of the units we chose functioned overall pretty well. There were some kinks to work out, but this is to be expected with just about any product you buy today.

Cooking Power

Cooking power is something you want to keep an eye out for. All of the units above have a cooking power of 1000W or more. This is the ideal wattage needed to cook whole meals in one unit.

As mentioned, we cooked a whole chicken breast in the device and timed how long it took compared to models with lower wattage power. Lower wattage power meant longer cook times. Most of our chickens were cooked completely in one hour, maybe a little longer.

There was only one model on our list that had an eco setting that will save power when the appliance is on standby and that was the Toshiba.

Presets & Power Settings

Presets are a favorite of ours. We love to be able to just push a button and let the microwave do its job. All of the units on our list come with presets. The NuWave has a whopping 112 of them.

These presets will have their separate power settings, but some of the units require you to choose a power setting if you are using the microwave function. We recommend choosing an appliance that offers adjustable power settings or presets. They just make using the machine so much easier. It takes the guesswork out of it.

Size

Size may matter when it comes to microwave air fryer combos. They come in so many different sizes, so you need to find one that fits your needs. We chose ones that were around 1.0 cubic feet.

These accommodate larger food portions, most being up to 30 quarts. The largest we’ve ever seen was 2.0 cubic feet, but we felt this was a little bit of an overkill.

You should take into consideration how much counter space you want to utilize as well as where the closest power outlet is going to be. We like the over-the-range GE microwave air fryer for space-saving. It mounted right over our stove and it was out of the way, leaving room for other kitchen gadgets.

Ease of Use

Any appliance should be easy to use. If it takes you longer to set up the appliance each time you use it than it does to cook the meal, it’s probably not worth it. We chose microwave air fryer combos that were overall easy to use. They had easy-to-read buttons and weren’t all that complicated to operate.

Final Thoughts

As you can see, there’s more to choosing a microwave air fryer combo than you may think. It’s important to consider its size, power, functionality, ease of use, and preset functions.

Based on all these considerations, we chose the Panasonic HomeChef is a broiler, microwave, air fryer, and oven all in one compact machine because it had everything we were looking for.

It has 20 presets, isn’t overly large, does what we need it to do, and more. It is our hope that our favorites piqued your interest and helped you choose the newest addition to your kitchen.
